DEMOCRACY VS. PLUTOCRACY Written by Paul Collins, Jr.

“Do You Have the Will?” was the theme of this year’s Business Agents’ Conference. Obviously, the union workers in Wisconsin were very much on our mind at that time, and I believe we all know that Wisconsin workers had and continue to have a strong will in facing the attacks on them!

The “Occupy Wall Street” people also have the will. They realize our country has become a plutocracy, a government controlled by the rich through corporations, also known as the 1%. It’s time to wake up the remaining 99% and get them to realize that we have been robbed. The 1% has robbed us of our jobs, our pensions, and our tax dollars.

Paul Collins Jr. Responds to a Recent Crains Article, "Constructions Costly Unions"

Follow The Money

I'm amazed by Greg David's June 6 column, (Subscription Needed): "Construction's Costly Unions." He fails to mention those who make the most money in the industry—developers—and instead picks on the construction workers. It's as if he thinks buildings somehow build themselves.

Mr. David made it sound as if a New York City carpenter's wage is $75 an hour. The truth is, after deducting health care, pension and training costs, and other benefits a carpenter may receive, the real wage is probably $35 to $40 an hour. Now, how does that compare with what the CEO of a real estate development company or the top executives of a real estate investment trust make?

MARCH FOR THE MIDDLE CLASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Join the NYC Central Labor Council, and working men and women from the Public Sector, Private Sector, and Building and Construction Trades.
